If you are reading this then you will know that the week 14th to 22nd November is National Astronomy Week, 2020. To mark this event, Lincoln Astronomical Society will be hosting a free Zoom session to view the night sky, using members’ telescopes from various locations in and around Lincoln. This event -or maybe events, if we are lucky- will normally start at 7:30 pm. One of the main objectives of this national event is to let as many people as possible view the planet Mars by telescope, which is now at its closest orbital point to Earth. The next time it will be as close is in 15 years’ time, 2035!

To partake in this free event by joining the session, you will need to pre-register your name and a contact email address beforehand at nationalastronomyweek@lincolnastronomy.org  You will need a Zoom- enabled device.

The weather is always a factor in events like this and so, if we have a clear night during this week, an email and one time use passcode will be sent out to those who have previously registered, containing the Zoom link. This puts you into a Zoom waiting room. The administrator will only admit names matching those who have pre -registered.

On joining the Zoom session, please ensure your device microphone is defaulted to off. We welcome questions via the chat button and, once a connection is established, the administrator will allow direct questions, as and when appropriate.

As well as Mars, we hope to be able to show examples of other Astronomical phenomena normally invisible to you, such as star clusters and far- off galaxies.

Hope you can join us.
